Michele Atkins is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA Inc. Recently retired from her position as President and CEO of Heritage Community Initiatives, a community based not-for-profit organization, Michele has more than 30 years of not-for-profit management, strategic planning, fundraising and governance experience. She has served in a senior leadership position at regional Make-A-Wish Foundations, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, the American Lung Association, Gilda’s Club of New York City, and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Carlow University, and has served on numerous boards of directors including the Board of Directors for the Pittsburgh Opera and of UPMC Magee Womens Hopsital. Michele earned a B.A. from Carlow College, and her professional credentials include CFRE, Certification in Human Services, University of Pittsburgh, Leadership Pittsburgh, and Certified Change Master.
Tom Canfield is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA, Inc. He is also the treasurer of the organization. He is a retired businessman who was an investment banker, running Equity Catalysts LLC, which he founded in 1999. Tom was president of The Enterprise Corporation of Pittsburgh, a non-profit firm, and was Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University’s Graduate School of Industrial Administration. He is on the Board of Directors of Propel Schools; is on the Board of Directors of Auberle in McKeesport, PA; and, has been a partner of Social Venture Partners Pittsburgh since its start. Tom has an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and earned his MBA from Harvard University.
Vince Ciganik is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA, Inc. Over the past 25 years, Vince has been instrumental in the design and development of several hardware products that are still on the market today, including oxygen analyzers and mass spectrometers. He has been responsible for the architecture and development of many software products including web interfaces for managing instrumentation and web based applications for managing various types of drug therapy. Vince has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Kelly Coticchia is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA, Inc. With over 20 years of experience in promoting and managing products and programs, Kelly has generated successful marketing campaigns including new, “unchartered” projects such as building a first-time program. Along with developing marketing strategies, she has excellent written and oral communication skills to address a variety of audiences including web and search engine marketing, advertising, public relations, and events. She has served as a Senior Product Manager or Director of Marketing at several high-tech companies, such as Lumos Networks, Apreo, Innovation Works, Computerm Corportation, LEGENT, and Carnegie Group. Kelly has her BA degree from Carnegie Mellon University and has authored several publications.
Becky Flaherty is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA, Inc. With more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit field and a Master of Science in Professional Leadership, Becky has raised millions of dollars and provided strategic direction for organizations that have served some of the most under-resourced populations in Pittsburgh and nationally. Some of Becky’s accomplishments include helping to keep the doors open at a struggling early learning center in an under-resourced community, providing strategic direction to expand social justice programming for under resourced youth in multiple cities across the country, working with numerous companies to design their plan for making social impact, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award from Carlow University for her work in the Masters of Professional Leadership Program, and bringing the artwork of a National Museum focused on Veterans to the Pittsburgh region. In her current role as Executive Director at Shady Lane School, Becky is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s 50 year mission and vision are carried into the next 50 years by managing and developing resources, developing strategy and providing high quality programming for children in a diverse and inclusive environment that focuses on social emotional health, arts and play.
Judy Horgan is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA, Inc. She has focused her recent efforts on improving the lives of young children in Allegheny County and western Pennsylvania. As President of the Board of Directors of Child Watch, she helped create the Allegheny County Early Childhood Collaborative to join together local agencies serving children ages 0-5 for the purpose of providing an information kit to the parents of all newborns in the county through prenatal and postnatal programs. Judy has served in an advisory capacity for the Office of Children, Youth and Families in Allegheny County, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Allies for Children, a non-profit advocacy organization for children.
Susan Kaminski is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA, Inc. A retired executive from the semiconductor equipment industry, Susan has a B.S. in physics, and has had jobs ranging from staff scientist at M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratory to managing director of a product division of Applied Materials. Susan is currently serving as Chair of Youth Connect, a local community collaborative organization focusing on reducing teen risky behaviors, and is also serving as Board VP of Village Theater Company. In addition to being a past president of Child Health Association of Sewickley, Susan has served on the boards of Sweetwater Center for the Arts, the Sewickley YMCA, Child Watch of Pittsburgh, and Fern Hollow Nature Center. She also participated as a partner with Pittsburgh Social Venture Partners, where she provided strategic planning support to PSVP grantees, and served as board chair.
Philip Keys is a member of the Board of Directors of NurturePA, Inc. He is also the president of the organization. In addition to his work with the Nurture® Program, Phil is co-founder and president of Keystone Therapeutics, a software development company focused on pharmacy practice and education, and is a member and past president of the Board of Directors of Chartiers Community MH/IDD Center. Phil has over 30 years of management experience, and has co-founded and served as president and vice president of two other successful health care companies. He received a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Duquesne University and his MBA from Carnegie Mellon University where he has been an invited lecturer in technology commercialization and entrepreneurship.
